When life is a bit much…

So today is hard, I am feeling overwhelmed by life, and quite defeated. I am dealing with debilitating pain at the moment, so I haven’t been sleeping, and it’s taking a toll on me… 😢

I’m pretty sure we all have days like that, so I thought I’d share with you all 2 “coping strategies” a therapist once taught me…

1- Look at things from above. When there’s too much going on and you feel “buried” under all kinds of problems, elevate yourself. Close your eyes and visualize that you are “above your problems”. For example, see yourself at the top of a building, looking down at your pile of problems (if you are not prone to vertigo!… 😅). Personally, I like to visualize a nice nature scene (like Monument Valley! 😍) with my worries at the bottom, and see myself as a big bird of prey, gliding through the sky, way above it all… The goal here is to alter the way your brain perceives it all. In theory, if you do this often enough, you will get the feeling that you can tackle things, instead of things tackling you to the ground.

2- When the big picture is overwhelming, narrow your vision. Pretend you are taking a few steps back, and readjust your vision to the far edge of what’s overwhelming you. What can you do to move forward? What is the smallest, tiniest, easiest step you could take right now, to move in the right direction? Once you figure out what it is, make it your current goal. Once you have reached that tiny goal, look at the next one…

He also told me “Sometimes you need to take life one day at a time, and if that’s too much, take it one hour at a time”… Sometimes just going trough the day is enough.

Love and Light to all. 🙏💖✨
